Aloha Schofield families! Hope everyone is having an awesome beginning to their 2018. My name is Perla Walker and I will be relaying as much wonderful information to you as I possibly can regarding all the spectacular happenings around our post and Oahu. Just to give a little background, I’m a wife, a mother to two wonderful kiddos, ages 4 and 7, a cat lover, an outdoor enthusiast who seeks adventure, and I love to cook (and eat!). I am absolutely thrilled to have this opportunity and cannot wait to start sharing all my knowledge.
Not sure how many of you all know but late last year the USO opened up a branch located here on Schofield Barracks. The USO aims to strengthen the morale of military service members by keeping them connected to their families and community, and they are able to provide for its military community due to the volunteers located in the area within which it operates. If you are unfamiliar with the USO and would like to learn more about the organization and any volunteer opportunities, please be sure to like their page on Facebook at USO Schofield Barracks, where there is always information on upcoming events.
Two of the ongoing events presented and hosted by the Schofield Barracks USO that I’d like to share are Humpday sandwiches and Kids afternoon movie, which both take place on Wednesdays. Volunteers can be found serving sandwiches, sodas, and chips on Wednesdays from 11am-1pm at the USO building located on 208 Trimble Road. Stop by with your kids, let your soldiers know, spread the word and enjoy this free meal provided for our military families. The second event, kids afternoon movie, takes place at the same location on Wednesdays beginning at 2pm. This is a great way to meet other families if you are new to the area and free popcorn will be handed out as the movie begins. The movie scheduled to play on Wednesday January 31st is “The Jungle Book”. All future movies can be found on the USO Schofield Barracks Facebook page.
Hope y’all have a wonderful week! Mahalo!
