I live in Alaska. I never thought I would ever say that, visit here let alone live here! I am not going to lie, living in interior Alaska is cold, I mean COLD. It can get down to -70 here, but it is a place that is a MUST for your bucket list! I have seen the northern lights right outside my home, two moose came for a visit in our backyard, the Yukon quest dog sled race started here. This place is absolutely beautiful.

If you are an outdoorsy person, this is your paradise! From ice fishing to hiking to hunting….even a natural hot springs. Interior Alaska is your ticket!

We got stationed at Fort Wainwright a few months ago and I got plugged into the community here so my family could get to exploring. We are here for only 3 years, gotta take advantage of everything there is to see!

That being said, I am going to give you a sneak peak into an awesome event to see if you are ever here!

The ICE Park is located in Fairbanks, AK and is open from about mid February to the end of March.  Since 1990, the BP World Ice Art Championships has grown into a month long event. The Kids ICE Park bring over 100 ice artists and approximately 45,000 visitors! There are four events to the ice sculpture competitions: Single block classic, multi block classic, armature open and youth classic.

If you were ever curious to learn how to sculpt Ice, they offer classes from about mid January to right before the opening of the ICE Park!

Not only is there an incredible show of ice sculptures but there are also Dog Sled Rides! Old time Alaska there was really only one means of transportation, dog sleds….today it is now a sport and hobby! Well…if you visit the Ice Park you could get a 15 minute ride on a dog sled! How cool is that?!

The ICE Park is something the kids won’t forget playing in J So much fun, and my kiddos took advantage twice going with the school for a field trip and once as a family! If you are ever in interior Alaska during the beginning of the year be sure to plan a day at the ICE Park!!

……..Stay tuned next week for another travel must see!
