<p>Every spring I convince myself I’m going to “reset my life.”</p>

<p>That would mean new routines, more structure., and morning walks that look peaceful instead of me holding a leash in one hand and a coffee I forgot about in the other.</p>

<p>My dog? Completely unbothered. Already thriving, and already acting like they invented spring. So, instead of overhauling everything, we did the one reset that actually matters in this house: <strong><a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TQv4_foot70" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lunch</a></strong>!</p>

<p>It started pretty simply with the same routine, but just a little more intention behind it. We’ve been using <strong><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/merrick" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Merrick</a></strong> dry food as the base for lunch, and the thing I did not expect is how much my dog acts like I’ve suddenly become a five-star chef!</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/merrick" target="_blank"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="360" height="640" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-360x640.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-45650" style="width:335px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-360x640.jpeg 360w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-169x300.jpeg 169w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-768x1365.jpeg 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-864x1536.jpeg 864w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-370x658.jpeg 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-270x480.jpeg 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-570x1013.jpeg 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5-740x1316.jpeg 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-5.jpeg 1152w" sizes="(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>There’s something about it that just looks…real. Like, you can actually see what’s going into the bowl. Real ingredients, real texture, none of that “mystery kibble, but make it aesthetic” situation.</p>

<p>Then, I got slightly extra with it (because spring apparently makes me that person) and started adding little toppings or serving it on a lick mat some afternoons. Now, lunch is a little messier, a little more intentional and fully monitored by a dog who acts like I am running late to serve them.</p>

<p>The reaction is always the same&#8230;He sits. He stares, and he does that slow tail thump like they’re trying to remain composed but failing immediately and suddenly it’s gone like it never existed.</p>

<p>The best part isn’t even the food itself, it’s everything that comes after, because when lunch hits right, the whole day changes. Walks end up longer, sniff stops are more dramatic, and even the random yard zoomies feel like they have purpose instead of just… chaos for sport.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/merrick" target="_blank"><img decoding="async" width="360" height="640" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-360x640.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-45649" style="width:338px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-360x640.jpeg 360w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-169x300.jpeg 169w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-768x1365.jpeg 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-864x1536.jpeg 864w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-370x658.jpeg 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-270x480.jpeg 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-570x1013.jpeg 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4-740x1316.jpeg 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-4.jpeg 1152w" sizes="(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>It’s like the fuel actually carries them through the day instead of just filling a bowl. I guess that’s the “spring reset” no one really talks about. Let me tell you&#8230;it is not the clean kitchen and the perfect new routine. It is just a calmer morning and afternoon, a happier dog, and a mat that gets new attention everyday now.</p>

<p>I didn’t reinvent my life this spring, however, I did upgrade lunch….my dog thinks that was the correct priority anyway.</p>

<p>Are you ready to hit the open road? Did you know that there’s at least one significant attraction in almost all fifty states? Taking a long trip with your pet could be so much fun and there are so many memories to be made. Doing a little research before starting your journey could lead to some incredible destinations.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Places to Visit on Your Scenic Route</strong>:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>National Parks</strong>: Did you know there are 63<a href="https://www.nps.gov/index.htm"><strong> National Parks</strong></a> in the United States? One of the best things about these parks is that a lot of them offer <strong><a href="https://mymilitarylifestyle.com/article/national-parks-for-military-veterans">military discounts</a></strong>. </li>

<li><strong>State Parks</strong>: State parks offer great views and many have picnic areas which make them a great rest stop for lunch or exercise.</li>

<li><strong>Walking Trails/Parks</strong>: Almost every major city will offer a nice trail or park that is considered pet-friendly. Finding a nice <a href="https://www.recreation.gov/articles/list/10-awesome-hikes-from-10-major-cities/73"><strong>trail</strong></a> will be a great way to stretch your legs after being in the car for a long period of time.</li>

<li><strong>Lakes/Beaches</strong>: Depending on what route you take you may not encounter a beach, but there are over 125,000 lakes in the lower 48 states. Don’t forget to pack a comfortable leash during your trip. I’m sure your pet will want to get out and maybe take a dip in the water&#8230;if it’s allowed.</li>
</ul>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="480" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-640x480.png" alt="" class="wp-image-45662" style="width:454px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-640x480.png 640w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-300x225.png 300w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-768x576.png 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-370x278.png 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-270x203.png 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-570x428.png 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-740x555.png 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-80x60.png 80w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image.png 800w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure></div>

<p>Get out and enjoy the open road! So, slow down and enjoy new sights, sounds, and smells. Your pet will appreciate having a new environment to explore as this provides mental enrichment, and of course, having a travel buddy will bring you comfort as well.</p>

<p>Have you gotten yet another set of <strong><a href="https://militarypetpcs.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PCS</a></strong> orders? Are you trying to figure out what you need to do before hitting the road? Well don’t worry, because we have plenty of helpful tips that will make your move smooth. If you have kids, then you already know a road trip requires snacks, breaks, and toys to keep them occupied. Pets are no different! Here are a few tips to be ready for the road! </p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

<p class="has-text-align-left"><strong>Things to Do Before a Road Trip with Your Pet: </strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Plan your stops</strong>: If possible, map out your route to include pet friendly stops for potty breaks. Planning ahead for overnight stays is recommended as well since all hotels don’t accept pets. Keep in mind hotels may charge an additional fee for pets so you may need to budget a little extra money.</li>

<li><strong>Pack a pet travel bag</strong>: Pack a bag that includes all the essentials (leash, feeding/water bowls, toys, treats and poop bags).&nbsp;</li>

<li><strong>Immunizations</strong>: Make sure your pet is up to date on all shots prior to leaving your duty station. If the need arises to board your pet, you may be required to show proof of vaccination.</li>

<li><strong>Prepare your vehicle</strong>: If you don’t already have one, it&#8217;s highly recommended to purchase a seat cover or large blanket to protect your car seats. Be sure to lock your windows and doors to avoid any issues while driving.</li>

<li><strong>Pet Identification</strong>: Ensure your pets contact information is up to date on their collar/tag just in case they get loose or wander off.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>

<p>Road trips can be so much fun. Plan a few stops to take in the sights and create memories along the way. This also gives everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some fresh air. Did you know that some pets can experience motion sickness?&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://tinyurl.com/CommissaryDelivery" target="_blank" rel=" "><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="480" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-640x480.png" alt="" class="wp-image-45510" style="width:438px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-640x480.png 640w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-300x225.png 300w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-768x576.png 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-370x278.png 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-270x203.png 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-570x428.png 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-740x555.png 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1-80x60.png 80w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2g-Shopping-on-Phone-1.png 800w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>When the dog food bag is suddenly empty, the cat has decided today’s flavor is unacceptable, and the treat jar is suspiciously bare, convenience matters.</p>

<p>With Click2Go, you can order groceries and pet essentials from the Commissary online and choose curbside pickup or, at participating locations, delivery. In fact, about <a href="https://tinyurl.com/CommissaryDelivery" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>70 Commissaries </strong></a>now offer delivery if you live within 20 miles, making it even easier to stock up without rearranging your whole day.</p>

<p><strong>A typical pet parent cart might include:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Dog or cat food</li>

<li>Treats (obviously)</li>

<li>Training treats</li>

<li>Pet toppers or broth</li>

<li>Cleaning supplies</li>
</ul>

<p>If spring has taught us anything, it’s that mud season is real and those cleaning supplies come in handy.</p>

<p>For military families juggling busy schedules, Click2Go means fewer last-minute runs and more time for the important stuff, walks, couch cuddles, and backyard zoomies. Personally, I love that it saves me time so I can spend more of it with my dog, whether that’s heading out for a hike, wandering along the beach, or just getting outside together instead of running errands.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://tinyurl.com/CommissaryDelivery" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="480" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-640x480.png" alt="" class="wp-image-45511" style="width:460px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-640x480.png 640w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-300x225.png 300w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-768x576.png 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-370x278.png 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-270x203.png 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-570x428.png 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-740x555.png 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food-80x60.png 80w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/C2G-Dog-Food.png 800w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>Here at Military Pet Club, we’re always looking for ways to save time to spend more time with our furry kiddos and sharing seasonal pet tips that will help make this military life better. So next time the treats run out overnight (again), try <strong><a href="https://tinyurl.com/CommissaryDelivery" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Click2Go</a></strong>, your pets will definitely approve.</p>

<p>Welcome to our kitchen. Today we are making healthy breakfast bowls.</p>

<p>Mom usually prepares them for us with the punctuality of a five-star restaurant opening at exactly 0600. Portions measured. Bowls placed. Fresh water topped off like a luxury spa amenity. It’s a system we respect, and we always expect.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/purina-one/promos" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="462" height="640" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-462x640.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-45485" style="width:337px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-462x640.jpeg 462w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-217x300.jpeg 217w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-768x1063.jpeg 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-370x512.jpeg 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-270x374.jpeg 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-570x789.jpeg 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-740x1024.jpeg 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image.jpeg 903w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>However, on this particular morning, she refused to get out of bed at 6 a.m.</p>

<p>We tried patience. We really did. There was polite pawing. A gentle face sniff. A single, tasteful meow. When those efforts were ignored, we escalated to Phase Two: coordinated ruckus. This included synchronized zoomies across her pillow, a dramatic object push from the nightstand (gravity is fascinating), and a vocal performance that can only be described as “urgent breakfast opera.”</p>

<p>Finally, she stumbled to the kitchen. Victory.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/purina-one/promos" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="428" height="640" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2-428x640.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-45487" style="width:338px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2-428x640.jpeg 428w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2-200x300.jpeg 200w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2-768x1149.jpeg 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2-370x554.jpeg 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2-270x404.jpeg 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2-570x853.jpeg 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2-740x1108.jpeg 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-2.jpeg 914w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 428px) 100vw, 428px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>Breakfast isn’t just breakfast, it’s health, routine, and the foundation of a very important day of napping in sunbeams and supervising dust particles.</p>

<p>Today’s Menu: <a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/purina-one" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Purina ONE</strong></a> healthy breakfast bowls.</p>

<p>High-quality protein helps support strong muscles for elite-level hallway sprints. Essential vitamins and minerals contribute to bright eyes that can spot a treat bag opening from three rooms away. Omega fatty acids support healthy skin and a glossy coat that looks especially good when dramatically draped over a laptop keyboard.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/purina-one/promos" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="468" height="640" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1-468x640.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-45486" style="width:336px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1-468x640.jpeg 468w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1-219x300.jpeg 219w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1-768x1050.jpeg 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1-370x506.jpeg 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1-270x369.jpeg 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1-570x780.jpeg 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1-740x1012.jpeg 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image-1.jpeg 911w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>Mom says she chooses <a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/purina-one/promos" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Purina ONE</strong> </a>because real meat is the first ingredient and the formulas are crafted to support whole-body health. We say we choose it because it tastes excellent and fuels our very demanding lifestyle.</p>

<p><strong>A healthy diet shows up in the little things:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Consistent energy (for 3 a.m. parkour)</li>

<li>Healthy digestion (we’ll spare you details)</li>

<li>Soft, shiny coats perfect for shedding on dark clothing</li>

<li>Strong immune support for year-round wellness </li>
</ul>

<p>Once the bowls were served, peace was restored. The kitchen returned to calm. Mom sipped her coffee. We ate with the focus of professional athletes refueling after competition.</p>

<p>February is rude. January at least pretends to be hopeful. New routines. Fresh starts. Clean slates. February just shows up cold, gray, and unimpressed with your motivation. The holidays are gone. The adrenaline is gone. The energy is definitely gone. And somehow…your dog still expects a walk&#8230;.Every day.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="http://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/category/pets/" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="480" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-640x480.png" alt="" class="wp-image-44931" style="width:457px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-640x480.png 640w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-300x225.png 300w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-768x576.png 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-370x278.png 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-270x203.png 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-570x428.png 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-740x555.png 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1-80x60.png 80w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-1.png 800w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>Some mornings I stare at the leash like it personally offended me. I consider fake sleeping. I consider “just five more minutes” that turns into twenty. Then, there’s a nose in my face. A tail on the mattress. A look that says: we’re doing this whether you’re ready or not. So, here we are. Hello February.</p>

<p>February fitness, influencer edition, minus the matching sets and sunrise runs. This month, movement looks like survival&#8230;for me at least. It looks like pulling on leggings you did not plan to wear in public. Coffee in one hand, leash in the other. Cold air hitting your face before your brain is fully awake. Dogs do not care about your burnout. They do not care about winter blues. They do not care about motivation.</p>

<p>They care about outside. and I have noticed something uncomfortable&#8230;the days I fight movement the hardest are the days I probably need it the most. So, I stopped trying to be impressive. We walk slow. We stop a lot. My dog inspects every leaf like it’s a crime scene and I do not mind. I scroll my phone more than I should. Some days we turn around early and call it a win. It still counts, because also here is the truth no one really says out loud:</p>

<p>Sometimes, especially in February, I move more consistently for my dog than I ever have for myself. If it were just me, I would negotiate. I would reschedule sometimes. I would say tomorrow instead. </p>

<p>However, my dog does not care about my excuses. Somewhere between the front door and the second block, the fog lifts a little. Not magically. Not dramatically. Just enough. Not every day is an outdoor day. Some days&#8230;winter wins&#8230;the couch wins&#8230;my nervous system wins. So, we get creative. Treats down the hallway. Puzzle toys on the floor. Ball pit chaos in the living room. Running stairs because we are both bored and slightly unhinged. Is it a workout? Who knows. Is my dog happy? Absolutely.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="http://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/category/pets/" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="480" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-640x480.png" alt="" class="wp-image-44932" style="width:458px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-640x480.png 640w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-300x225.png 300w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-768x576.png 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-370x278.png 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-270x203.png 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-570x428.png 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-740x555.png 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2-80x60.png 80w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Dog-Feb-Fitness-2.png 800w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>January and February have reminded me that fitness does not have to be aspirational. It can be functional and super messy. It can also be unplanned and the bare minimum sometimes and still meaningful. Right now, it is not about glow-ups. It is about not letting winter swallow you whole, finding one reason to stand up, put on shoes, and go outside, even when you would rather disappear into a blanket. Mine just happens to have four legs and very strong opinions about walk times. So, if you are tired, unmotivated, and slightly over this season…Same. Grab the leash anyway. Not for discipline. Not for progress. Just so you do not spend another day completely still.</p>

<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but these short (and often cold days) have me feeling a little stir crazy. I can assure you that my pal, Macaroni, isn&#8217;t immune to indoor boredom either! Having a kitten trapped inside during the winter isn&#8217;t for the faint of heart! So, I am always looking for ways to keep him stimulated! I&#8217;ve found some great ways to entertain him. <p>We have been investing in lots of interactive toys! There&#8217;s a great variety out there, but I can assure you that Macaroni has worn the batteries out a few times on his butterfly toy. He also has a toy that is basically a glorified cat version of whack a mole with a little feather and he greatly enjoys that. If you prefer something a little simpler you can&#8217;t go wrong with a traditional laser pointer. We all get a kick out him running all over the house trying to catch that annoying red light! We try to incorporate a variety of toys in his repertoire to prevent him from getting too bored. Just like with my kiddos, I also like to rotate toys with my kitties as well. This is a great way to keep things fresh and prevent boredom.</p>

<p>We&#8217;ve also purchased a few cat furniture pieces. This is a great way to give your pet a chance to utilize their natural instincts of climbing! We have a new cat tree that Macaroni can&#8217;t get enough of. We have a few cats in our household, so we do have multiple cat trees in our home. This is nice because Macaroni is a little much for my senior kitties at times. Everyone has their own space to explore and play! Don&#8217;t want to invest in a big cat tree? Try cutting a few holes in a cardboard box! I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve ever seen my cats turn down a new box to explore and play with. Crinkle up some packing paper and you will keep the entertained for at least a few hours!</p>

<p>Don&#8217;t be afraid to find some fun cat friendly videos online. Growing up, I vividly remember having a &#8220;Cat TV&#8221; VHS that I would put on for my kitties when I would be gone for extended periods during the day. Although I no longer have that video I have found similar videos on Youtube that my cats enjoy watching. This is a great way to stimulate their natural desire to hunt and observe wildlife! Depending on your location, you may be able to create the real thing for your pet with a window seat and a bird feeder.</p>

<p>I hope that some of these give your cat some great mental stimulation and ensure that you don&#8217;t suffer from too much boredom during these short winter days! </p>

<p>By the time January rolls around, I feel that quiet pull to slow everything down. The holidays are full of good moments, but they’re also loud, busy, and anything but routine. Travel days blend together, schedules disappear, and even the most easygoing dogs start to feel a little off.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/merrick" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="535" height="640" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092-535x640.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-44738" style="width:257px;height:auto" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092-535x640.jpeg 535w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092-251x300.jpeg 251w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092-768x919.jpeg 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092-370x443.jpeg 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092-270x323.jpeg 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092-570x682.jpeg 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092-740x886.jpeg 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_7092.jpeg 1077w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 535px) 100vw, 535px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>During the holidays, everything shifts. Feeding times change. Walks happen when we can squeeze them in. There are extra treats, extra people, and a lot less structure. My dog handled it well, but I could tell he missed the rhythm of normal days.</p>

<p>January is when we come back to ourselves. The house is quieter. The mornings are slower. And rebuilding a routine feels less like a task and more like a comfort.</p>

<p>One of the first things I reset was how we do meals. Instead of rushing through them or defaulting to a bowl, I started turning mealtime into something more thoughtful.</p>

<p>Winter limits how much time we spend outside, so mental stimulation becomes just as important as physical exercise. Feeding through enrichment has been one of the easiest ways to bring calm, focus, and structure back into our days.</p>

<p>Lately, I’ve been using <strong><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/search?for=promotions&amp;q=Merrick+dry+dog+food" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/search?for=promotions&amp;q=Merrick+dry+dog+food" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Merrick Dry Dog Food</a></strong> inside puzzle feeders and enrichment toys instead of extra treats. The kibble pieces are the perfect size for snuffle mats, puzzle games, and slow feeders, and it feels good knowing I’m using his actual meals for stimulation. It turns feeding time into a moment we both look forward to, not just something to check off the list.</p>

<p><strong>Our days don’t look fancy or perfectly scheduled, but they feel intentional:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Puzzle feeders in the morning while I make coffee</li>

<li>Short winter walks paired with indoor enrichment</li>

<li>Rotating toys so nothing feels boring</li>

<li>Evenings that end the same way every night</li>
</ul>

<p>Rebuilding a routine in January isn’t about strict rules or doing everything “right.” It’s about paying attention. Noticing what your dog needs. Creating moments of consistency when everything else feels uncertain. For us, that meant slowing down, being more present, and finding joy in the everyday like turning a simple bowl of food into a game.</p>

<p>Lately, I’ve been completely hooked on this Danish idea called Hygge. It’s that perfect mix of coziness, warmth, and just… slowing down in a way that makes everyday life feel kind of magical. I first heard about it from a friend of mine, she’s an author, and in her book, she talks about little rituals that turn ordinary days into moments you actually savor. After reading it, I realized I wanted some of that magic in my own life, especially with Luna.</p>

<p>Hygge isn’t about fancy décor or Pinterest-worthy setups. It’s not about doing anything big. For me, it’s the little things that make it real: curling up on the couch under a soft blanket, a warm drink in hand, and Luna curled up against me. She’s full of personality, stubborn, funny, and endlessly curious, but somehow she makes cozy feel effortless. I love watching her stretch in the sunlight, or just nap in a sunbeam. It reminds me to pause and notice the small things I usually rush past.</p>

<p>Of course, part of keeping Hygge alive with a cat means keeping the space fresh. Nothing kills a cozy vibe faster than a litter box that smells funky. I’ve been using <strong><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/my-commissary/pet-products/9987-tidy-cats-tidy-feet-cat-litter" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tidy Cat</a>,</strong> and it’s honestly one of those little practical things that makes relaxing with her possible without even thinking twice.</p>

<p>I’ve started trying to turn ordinary routines into these tiny Hygge rituals. Morning light streaming in through the windows is my cue for a slow stretch, a quiet coffee, and a little check-in with Luna as she inspects the room for “hidden treasures.” Evenings are my favorite: soft lighting, blankets tossed over the couch, and a few rounds of her favorite toys. Sometimes I light a candle (safely!) and just watch her explore or nap. There’s something so grounding about watching her do her thing, completely content.</p>

<p>The thing about Hygge is that it’s not something you schedule or force, it’s about noticing the little things and choosing to make them feel special. For me, it’s more than comfort, it’s gratitude, presence, and connection. Luna has been with me through moves, travels, and all the little chaos life throws at you, and practicing these cozy rituals with her makes me appreciate every day a little more.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-medium"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="300" height="300" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-300x300.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-44527" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-300x300.jpeg 300w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-640x640.jpeg 640w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-150x150.jpeg 150w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-768x768.jpeg 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-370x370.jpeg 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-270x270.jpeg 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-570x570.jpeg 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image-740x740.jpeg 740w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/image.jpeg 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></figure></div>

<p><br>Whether I’m curled up with a book, sipping tea, or just soaking in a quiet moment with her, I’ve realized that Hygge isn’t just a concept…it’s most definitely a lifestyle. And honestly, having Luna there to share it with is the best part of all. In 2026, I’m making it a goal to create more of these little Hygge moments with her. Soft blankets, warm drinks, gentle light, and a little help from <strong><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/my-commissary/pet-products/9987-tidy-cats-tidy-feet-cat-litter" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tidy Cat</a></strong> to keep our space fresh. It’s simple, it’s joyful, and it’s exactly the kind of mindful practice I didn’t know I needed, but now, I can’t imagine starting a day without it.<br></p>

<p>Winter is a magical time, full of snowflakes, cozy fires, and extra snuggles with our furry friends. But the colder months can bring unique challenges for cats and dogs, from dry skin and stiff joints to lower energy levels. Keeping pets <strong><a href="https://youtube.com/shorts/Wb7VGyC4XVU?si=LCG5x_hMPz9kqHPG" data-type="link" data-id="https://youtube.com/shorts/Wb7VGyC4XVU?si=LCG5x_hMPz9kqHPG" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">healthy</a></strong> in winter isn’t just about bundling them up; it’s about attention to nutrition, activity, and daily care.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-medium"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="293" height="300" src="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-293x300.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-44531" style="aspect-ratio:1;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-293x300.jpeg 293w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-625x640.jpeg 625w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-768x787.jpeg 768w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-1500x1536.jpeg 1500w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-2000x2048.jpeg 2000w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-370x379.jpeg 370w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-270x277.jpeg 270w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-570x584.jpeg 570w, https://blog.mymilitarysavings.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0364-740x758.jpeg 740w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px" /></figure></div>

<p>Cold weather affects pets in different ways. Indoor pets may become less active, which can lead to weight gain or boredom, while outdoor pets face chilly temperatures that can impact their joints and overall comfort. Dry indoor air can also affect skin and fur, and seasonal changes may influence appetite and immunity. Paying attention to these shifts helps pets thrive all season long.</p>

<p>Nutrition plays a key role in winter wellness. Pets may need slightly more energy to maintain body heat, but it’s also important that their diet supports immunity, coat health, and overall wellbeing. High-quality, complete diets, like <strong><a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/purina-one" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Purina</a> <a href="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/purina-one" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/brands/purina-one" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ONE</a></strong> for cats and dogs, provide essential vitamins, minerals, and protein that help pets stay active and healthy. Maintaining a consistent feeding routine and monitoring portion sizes is especially helpful when activity levels fluctuate during colder months.</p>

<p>Keeping pets active is just as important as what they eat. Dogs can enjoy short walks, snowy adventures, or indoor games like fetch and tug to keep energy levels up. Cats benefit from interactive toys, puzzle feeders, and short play sessions to stay mentally and physically stimulated. Cold weather can even be an opportunity for extra bonding, cozy sweaters, heated resting spots, and indoor play strengthen your connection while keeping them comfortable.</p>

<p>Comfort matters too. Providing warm bedding away from drafts, keeping water bowls filled with fresh water, and maintaining grooming routines can prevent dry skin and mats. Older pets may need extra warmth to ease stiff joints, and short-haired pets may need a little extra protection when heading outdoors.</p>

<p>Winter wellness is about balance: proper nutrition, safe activity, and cozy care. Small adjustments, like consistent meals, indoor play, and warm resting spots, go a long way toward keeping pets happy and healthy. A well-fed, well-cared-for pet is a happy pet, and that’s what winter is really all about, comfort, connection, and joy.</p>
