Take me out to the ball game! Baseball season is swing into El Paso with an exhibition game March 26 at Southwest University Park. The El Paso Chihuahuas will be hosting the San Diego Padres. The Chihuahua’s, a young team created in 2014, have won two division titles and is the 2016 Pacific Coast League Champions.
Southwest University Park, home of the Chihuahua, is a multilevel stadium located in the heart of downtown. Bring the kiddies to the playground and splash pad located on the centerfield concourse. A grass seating area is near the playground so bring a blanket and enjoy the game while your little ones cool off at the splash pad, run around the playground and jump around in the inflatables.
Peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs?! What’s baseball without food? The Chihuahuas do food right, not only do they have samplings of typical stadium food, they offer Aguas Frescas, border nachos, Chihua’rrrines, and watermelon mint salad, among gobs of other delectable edibles.
The exhibition game is not your sole opportunity to experience Chihuahuas baseball, the season begins April 5th, however, the first home game will be April 10th. The first Thursday’s home game is Military Appreciation Night and Thrifty Thursdays which includes $2 beer specials, coincidence, I don’t think so! Saturday night home games end with a firework spectacular. Sundays allow the kids a chance to feel like A-Rod while running the bases before the game. Local business sponsor loads of fun promotions throughout the season like 90’s night and Harry Potter Night.
