Aloha! One of my favorite things to do is eat! No, I’m being serious. Thanks to my amazing husband, I have over the years learned to get out of my comfort zone by trying new foods, which has ultimately led me to become food obsessed. I’m constantly thinking about my next meal and what I can do to change things up at dinnertime or how to give old recipes a new twist. My life seriously revolves around food. So, you can imagine my extreme level of excitement when I learned about the FREE cooking class offered to Island Palm Community residents. Yes! You heard right…FREE cooking class.
On the second Wednesday of every month there is a free cooking class offered to the residents of any Island Palm Community. The class is held in the activity room at the Kaena Community Center at 6pm. The next cooking class will take place March 14th and you won’t believe what Chef Katie will be teaching everyone how to make! Drumroll please…Chef Katie will be teaching residents how to make tamales!!! Y’all, I am way beyond thrilled. I grew up eating Mexican Tamales, which consist of seasoned meat (usually pork or chicken), or beans and jalapeños wrapped in cornmeal and then steamed in corn husks. They are so scrumptious.
Now, I’m not sure if Chef Katie is going to be teaching residents how to make Mexican tamales or a different type of tamale (because there are various kinds); however, what I do know is that I am not passing up the chance to learn how to make something new. You don’t have to make a reservation for this free cooking class. All you have to do is simply show up, have an open mind, and be ready to cook. Hope to see some of y’all there!
