FREE Kid’s Summer Reading Programs 2018

I have been a teacher on and off for over 20 years now, and I LOVE seeing the amazing reading incentives and programs that are put out every year to keep kids reading all summer long!  There are so many to choose from, just pick from your favorites and get your kiddos reading this summer!

Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program

With Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program, kids in grades 1-6 can earn a FREE Book!  You will need to read 8 books and record them in your Summer Reading Journal, that can be downloaded from the Summer Reading Program page, by telling which part of the story is your favorite and why.  Once you have completed your journal with all 8 books recorded, bring it to your local Barnes & Noble store until 3 Sept 18 to choose your FREE Reading Adventure book (from the pre-selected list).

Books-A-Million

Join Books-A-Million for their Summer Reading Adventure this summer.  Just choose 4 of the books from the Summer Reading Adventure section in-store and online.  Then, write about the books you’ve read in your Summer Reading Adventure Notebook.  Here is the printable progress tracker. Once you have completed all 4 books, take your completed notebook to your local store to receive a FREE Pencil Case and Pencils!

Half Price Books

Feed Your Brain is the name of the Half Price Books’ Summer Reading Program.  For Kids ages 14 and under, you will read at least 15 minutes per day (or grown-ups can read to you if you are still learning).  Use the reading log for June & July and add up your minutes each week.  Parents will initial each week to verify.  Then, once you have reached 300+ minutes, bring your reading log into your local Half Price Books store to claim your FREE $5 Bookworm Bucks on or before 31 Aug 18.   Not sure if you have a Half Price Books store nearby, enter your zip code or check out the full list of stores on their page.

If you have a teen, they need to read from the selected reading titles (or choose your own).  Then, write a short review on the book to earn your Bookworm Bucks.

Chuck E. Cheese Rewards Program (includes Reading as an option)

Did you know that Chuck E. Cheese Rewards & Calendars page and select Reading Rewards to print. When your kiddo reads every day for 2 weeks, then you can take your Reading Rewards Calendar into Chuck E. Local Libraries

Of course, don’t forget about checking your local libraries, including your base library!  Many libraries have amazing programs geared to keep kids reading all summer long, with prizes and other incentives!  Have you seen what’s happening at Scott AFB and other DOD Libraries this summer?  Learn more about the DOD-MWR Summer Reading Program at your local installation library or on the website.
