Welcome to our kitchen. Today we are making healthy breakfast bowls.

Mom usually prepares them for us with the punctuality of a five-star restaurant opening at exactly 0600. Portions measured. Bowls placed. Fresh water topped off like a luxury spa amenity. It’s a system we respect, and we always expect.

However, on this particular morning, she refused to get out of bed at 6 a.m.

We tried patience. We really did. There was polite pawing. A gentle face sniff. A single, tasteful meow. When those efforts were ignored, we escalated to Phase Two: coordinated ruckus. This included synchronized zoomies across her pillow, a dramatic object push from the nightstand (gravity is fascinating), and a vocal performance that can only be described as “urgent breakfast opera.”

Finally, she stumbled to the kitchen. Victory.

Breakfast isn’t just breakfast, it’s health, routine, and the foundation of a very important day of napping in sunbeams and supervising dust particles.

Today’s Menu: Purina ONE healthy breakfast bowls.

High-quality protein helps support strong muscles for elite-level hallway sprints. Essential vitamins and minerals contribute to bright eyes that can spot a treat bag opening from three rooms away. Omega fatty acids support healthy skin and a glossy coat that looks especially good when dramatically draped over a laptop keyboard.

Mom says she chooses Purina ONE because real meat is the first ingredient and the formulas are crafted to support whole-body health. We say we choose it because it tastes excellent and fuels our very demanding lifestyle.

A healthy diet shows up in the little things:

Consistent energy (for 3 a.m. parkour)

Healthy digestion (we’ll spare you details)

Soft, shiny coats perfect for shedding on dark clothing

Strong immune support for year-round wellness

Once the bowls were served, peace was restored. The kitchen returned to calm. Mom sipped her coffee. We ate with the focus of professional athletes refueling after competition.

Okay, but real talk—is it even fall if your house doesn’t smell like pumpkin spice and at least one cat isn’t silently judging you from a pile of throw blankets?

As a Guardsman, a milspouse, and the proud aunt to a few spoiled cat nieces and nephews, I live for the flannel, the lattes, and that crisp-leaf energy. And while I don’t have a cat of my own, I’ve met enough to know these little furballs are fall girls at heart.

Cats have incredible senses of smell—about 200 million scent receptors to our five million. So when your kitchen fills with pumpkin bread vibes or that candle from the PX? Trust, they notice. And honestly, they’re probably into it.

The best part? Pumpkin isn’t just a seasonal aesthetic. Plain pumpkin (not pie filling!) is actually good for cats in moderation. It can support digestion and makes a fun food topper. Want to keep it even easier? Make this super simple Push Pop Pumpkin Treat. It’s cat-safe, super tasty, and bring those cozy autumn flavors straight to your feline.

Picture it: soft socks, PSL in hand, an autumn candle flickering, and your cat niece or nephew enjoying a pumpkin treat. It’s giving main character energy—and we’re so here for it.

Just be sure to introduce new snacks slowly and skip anything with added sugar or spice. Keep it simple and safe so your favorite feline can enjoy the season too.

Want to level up the fall vibes? Join the MilitaryCatClub.com for surprise goodies and exclusive giveaways made just for military families and their fabulous felines.

So grab your latte, embrace the cozy, and let your cat crew in on the pumpkin spice joy. Fall is officially in season.

September isn’t just the start of fall and all things pumpkin spice—it’s also Happy Cat Month! While you’re pulling out sweaters and lighting your favorite candle, it’s the perfect time to spoil your feline friend with a little extra love and enrichment.

Cats may seem like they’ve got life all figured out, but they still need mental and physical stimulation to stay happy and healthy. The best part? It doesn’t take a big change to make a big difference in your kitty’s daily routine.

Try adding a window perch where they can watch birds, people, or even leaves drifting by. Bring in some new toys that mimic prey and watch your cat’s inner hunter come to life. You might even want to switch things up with food puzzles that keep their minds active while they snack.

Sometimes the simplest things are the most exciting. A crinkly paper bag, an empty cardboard box, or a fresh catnip toy can turn an ordinary day into a mini adventure. Let’s not forget how much cats love routines. Just a few minutes of brushing, playtime, or cuddles each day can strengthen your bond and make your cat feel extra special.

Summer is all about sunshine, road trips, backyard hangs, and spontaneous adventures. However, while we’re out here living our best lives, it’s important not to forget about the real MVPs of the household, our cats.

Warm weather brings all kinds of fun, but it also comes with its own set of risks. Heat exhaustion, bug bites, allergies, and even unexpected injuries can sneak up fast during those long summer days. That’s why regular vet checkups are especially important when temps start climbing.

Vets aren’t just there for emergencies. Think of checkups as wellness visits that help catch small issues before they become big ones. Summer can be tough on cats, especially if they’re spending time near open windows or traveling with the family. Fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes are more active in the heat, and a vet can help ensure your cat is up-to-date on preventatives and vaccinations to stay protected.

If your cat has seasonal allergies, your vet can help manage symptoms like sneezing, itchy skin, or watery eyes – because yes, cats struggle with pollen and environmental allergens too. Plus, if you’re planning a PCS or vacation, your vet can confirm your cat is fit for travel and help with health certificates or tips on avoiding heat embargoes if you’re flying.

Even indoor cats benefit from a summer check-in. Subtle changes in temperature, light, and routine can affect their mood and behavior. A quick visit can help you stay ahead of health concerns and give you peace of mind.

Bottom Line: staying proactive with regular vet visits helps your cat enjoy the season safely and comfortably.

Bonus for Military Cat Parents: The Military Cat Club has free gifts, giveaways, and helpful resources created just for you, because nothing says, “I’ve got your six,” like keeping your kitty calm, cool, and healthy all summer long.

There’s something about sleeping under the stars, hearing the crackle of a fire, and waking up to a cool breeze that just resets your whole mindset. I remember the first time I took my dogs camping, I was overpacked, under-rested, and still had the best time. We weren’t in a national park or doing anything crazy adventurous. It was a quiet weekend with a tent, a fire pit, and my favorite four-legged sidekicks.

Whether you’re heading out to the mountains, glamping with fairy lights and an air mattress, or just pitching a tent in your backyard, camping with pets can be such a fun way to disconnect and reset, as long as you’re a little prepared.

Here’s what I’ve learned to always pack:

Collapsible food and water bowls

Enough food and water for the whole trip (plus a little extra)

Medications, flea/tick protection, and a copy of vet records

A leash or harness

Waste bags or a litter box

A familiar bed or blanket (trust me, this helps them settle in)

A small pet first aid kit with vet-approved essentials

The biggest tip? Start simple. Test it out at home first if your cat or dog is new to the outdoors. Some pets love it immediately, while others need a slower intro. Either way, they’ll love being part of the adventure if you set them up for comfort and safety.

These trips are rarely perfect, but they’re so worth it. You get dirty paws, tangled leashes, and zero cell service, but you also get bonding time, wagging tails, and cozy snuggles by the fire. For me, that’s the good stuff.

So, before you plan your next pet-friendly camping trip, join the Military Pet Club!
Hey, cat lovers! Summer is finally here, which means our furry friends deserve some fun, cool-down treats just like we do. And if you’re a military family juggling PCS season, AT season, long days outside, or life on the go, it helps to know what summer foods are safe and even beneficial for your feline companions.

Hydration is everything. Whether you’re stationed in a hot, dry climate, or just spending more time outdoors, keeping our pets cool and hydrated is key. My battle buddy up near Ft. Meade swears by her pet water fountain, it’s been a total game-changer. Her cat drinks way more from flowing water than she ever did from a still bowl.

Wet cat food is another easy win. It helps increase moisture intake while still being a mealtime favorite. According to the hype, rotating between tuna and chicken in gravy is the way to go, especially when the heat has everyone (even the cat!) moving a little slower.

Feeling adventurous? Some fruits and veggies can make safe, healthy treats. I wouldn’t have guessed it, but apparently some cats go wild for cantaloupe. Blueberries and cooked pumpkin are also winners. They’re great for digestion and full of nutrients. Just skip the pie filling and anything with added sugar.

Now, let’s talk real-life shopping. If I’m near Ft. Campbell, I make a quick list before heading to the Commissary. It’s my go-to spot to grab wet food when it’s on sale, and they sometimes have coupons for pet products too. The savings add up fast, and it feels good knowing we’re stocked and ready, whether it’s for a heat wave or getting put on orders at the last-minute.

Making smart choices for your cat doesn’t have to be complicated. With a little planning and a lot of love, your feline friend can enjoy the season right alongside you.

Hopefully this checklist is just the ticket to get your PURR-fect pal spring ready:

Start by deep cleaning all dishes. This is a great time to check for cracks or damage to any of your cat’s food or water bowls. Ensure you don’t use any harmful chemicals while cleaning.

Deep clean your cat’s litter box. Check for any damage and replace as needed. Again, ensure you are using pet safe cleaning products.

Check everything! Check over all your cat furniture and clean as needed.

Clean and purge your cat’s toys. If you see any damaged items toss and replace. We don’t want our cat’s ingesting any harmful strings.

Review your cat’s health record. If they are due for any vaccines now is the perfect time to schedule a check up!

Are they up-to-date? Warmer weather can often mean it’s time for Heart worm and Flea medication. Make sure you do an inventory and check in with your Veterinarian for refills.

Do an inventory of your grooming supplies! We all like to look our best and ensuring you have the right tools will make sure your cat’s coat is always looking its best! Don’t forget to replace your pet’s toothbrush as well!

I hope that this checklist gets your Spring cleaning off to the right start! In doings these simple tasks I know you will set your feline friends up for the PURR-fect spring!

If you’ve got cats of your own then you may very well know that they take over everything. Left a shirt out on the floor? They’re laying on it. Set a box on the counter? They’re sleeping in it. Set a grocery bag to the side? They’re investigating it! I have found my little fur balls tucked away in closets, napping behind trash cans, even snoozing inside of gym bags! Although they are welcome to my bed, my blankets, my pillows, whatever they want… they’d rather make awkward arrangements for themselves so I came up with a solution. In order to get my cats to sleep in a designated area, I put together a cozy cat house out of their favorite items: t-shirts and cardboard. It was a success as this is now “the cool spot” and my two fuzzy guys often fight over who gets to use it – before they always settle on sharing it together. <3

If you’ve got some free time on your hands, some cardboard scraps, two metal hangers, and a pet that would use it… then try this fun DIY project. What do you have to lose?! You’ll also need a tool to cut the hanger, packaging tape, a small blanket (I used a receiving blanket), an old tee shirt, and a hot glue gun.

1. Start with a square piece of cardboard. I used an old box from the post office and cut it about 14″x14″. If you need to, you can tape two pieces of cardboard together as this part will lay on a hard surface and doesn’t necessarily have to be that sturdy. It’s just your base for holding your hangers together!

2. Cut your (2) metal hangers at the very top beneath the twisted section on each side. You are going to remove this hooked part of the hanger (but do not throw them away yet) and bend the remaining hanger pieces into an arch for the “roof.”

3. Now take the hook that you cut from the hanger and use the sharp metal end to punch a hole in each corner of your cardboard. Wrap your blanket across the cardboard and hot glue it in place underneath, being careful not to cover the holes you have just made. Take your bent arch pieces and criss-cross them, sticking the ends into the holes on each corner.

4. Secure the area where your two hangers cross with tape and then bend a small portion of the arches on the underside of the cardboard at each corner and then tape in place.

5. Pull the t-shirt over your cardboard with the front of the shirt facing up (I used a men’s size large) and arrange it to where the neck hole is facing towards you and makes a suitable entrance for your pet. Fold and tuck the excess shirt material underneath the cardboard (trim some off with scissors if needed) and hot glue in place.

There you have it!

This will be an even bigger hit with your fur babies if you use a shirt that you have recently worn that may have your scent on it!

Here are my 2 goofballs, Bruno and Gus Gus, initially battling over the cat house and then agreeing to snuggle up and share it together.

I can’t guarantee that this will keep your cats out of your dirty clothes hamper or off of your favorite spot on the couch, but I can guarantee that they will appreciate this new hiding spot. My handsome guys are in it almost every afternoon!
