This was so delicious! We’ve made this as one of our side dishes when our family has had grilled steak, chicken, seafood or even when we’ve had a pairing of surf and turf. Even if you’ve never really liked brussel sprouts, I promise… you’ve never tried them this way. They are so divinely scrumptious! My kids; to especially include my youngest, who is the most finicky of the picky eaters in our family likes brussel sprouts when they are cooked like this! I’ve had to start making a double batch whenever I make them for lunch or dinner. I recently made them for a potluck gathering we went to and they were a huge hit and the ONLY vegetable that was completely gone! My husband was shocked as he didn’t think they’d go over so well due to the fact that most people haven’t tried or dislike brussel sprouts. Obviously when they are prepared this way, they are winning over more taste buds with their tantalizing mouth watering deliciousness! Give this recipe a try and let us know what you think. Don’t forget to try some Redd’s Apple Ale with them.

Remember to drink responsibly and NEVER serve anyone under the legal age of 21 years alcohol or alcohol containing beverages.

I am so excited for all of the family get-togethers that will be happening over the next few months! Our neighborhood is already planning pot-lucks and everyone in general seems so much more social and happy this time of year… which is why it’s my absolute favorite season! I love creating new, yummy dishes but the hard part is ending up with so much more food than my family of four can consume. So cue those large gatherings where I can cook and bake for a crowd and I’m one happy girl!

In my family, when we say dinner is at 6 that means it is encouraged that you show up around 4 to sit and socialize for a while beforehand. The kids all run around and play, the adults can catch up with each other, and delicious appetizers are passed around for everyone to enjoy. This fall I decided I wanted to try a new Cinnamon Apple Spread that was recommended to me by a friend and ohhhmygoodness, it was an immediate HIT! The children cleared half of the bowl before parents were even able to try it but, you know, adulting is tough. This is definitely going to be on my Thanksgiving menu now as well!! No doubt about it!

When I was given the recipe it was initially recommended that this spread be served with Honey Maid® Graham Crackers but while I was roaming our commissary picking up the ingredients, I discovered something that looked even better… LIMITED EDITION Nutmeg and Cinnamon Triscuits®! Yaaas! They are just as delish as they sound! Make sure you try this recipe with both!!

These are the ingredients that you’ll need:

1 pkg. (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened

3 Tbsp. apple juice

1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

3/4 cup finely chopped apples

24 HONEY MAID® Honey Grahams OR Nutmeg & Cinnamon TRISCUITS®

Step 1) Beat cream cheese, apple juice and cinnamon in medium bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Stir in apples; cover.

Step 2) Refrigerate at least 1 hour to allow flavors to blend.

Step 3) Serve as a spread!

And you wanna hear something else totally awesome about this dish!?? It only takes 10 minutes to whip together!!! This is perfect for even the busiest person always on the go!

So let me know what you think – which is better? Honey Maid® or Triscuits®? Make sure you grab those Nutmeg & Cinnamon Triscuits® from your local commissary while you can – they are limited edition!! AND… only $1.99!!

But no worries, Honey Maid® Grahams (low-fat cinnamon and other varieties) are on sale, too, for only $2 for a 14.4 oz box! This savings ends November 15 so HURRY and stock up today!

“A waffle is like a pancake with a syrup trap.” – Mitch Hedberg (comedian). Yes, yes they are!!! They are insanely delicious!! And my absolute favorite way to eat them is with butter on top, melting into those little square pockets that give a burst of flavor with each bite. Nom nom nom!! My children are crazy about Eggos®, too, and prefer them with whipped cream and sprinkles on top. Recently my husband has been on a fried egg sandwich kick, using Eggos® instead of bread. If you’ve never thought to do that before… what are you waiting for!? You seriously won’t eat an egg sandwich any other way after that!

We like to play with our food in our house, as taboo as that may be. The great thing about Kellogg’s® Eggos® is that they aren’t just for breakfast… they make perfect snacks, too! Check out these fun flowers we created with fruit:

Cool, right? There’s just so much you can do with a waffle if you think a bit outside of the box. Have you ever tried waffle-crusted salmon? (It’s perfect with a honey-lemon sauce! Find the recipe here!) Or the Down South staple, chicken and waffles!! Click here for THAT yum-yum recipe!

If you are going to play around in the kitchen though creating your own amazing waffle-inspired recipes, the first thing you have to do is STOCK UP! And what a perfect time, because…

Select varieties of 24 packs are on sale NOW for $3.99!!! This hot deal is good through the entire month of November!

Save $6.00 at your local Exchange on a 1.75 liter bottle of Finlandia Vodka through August 31, 2017.

This delicious grown up lemonade can be made in a snap! Not only does it taste decently scrumptious, but it takes no time at all to prepare it. If you have company drop in on you for an unexpected and spur of the moment gathering (like I did) then this drink is perfect! It is so divine, your guest will never know that you weren’t prepared. I know my guest couldn’t tell that my husband had forgotten to tell me that we were having company over the evening that I made these. It is so refreshing that it helps to beat the hot summer days of August, which is the hottest month of the year where we are stationed; even more so this summer!

As always, I remind you to drink responsibly. Never serve alcoholic beverages to anyone under the legal drinking age. Also remember the old saying of “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk”! Have at least 3 plans: Plan A, Plan B and Plan C when it comes to the safety of others on the roads, your friends and yourself, just in case something happens to one of your plans, you have a back up. Remember that only time can sober a person up, even if they only had a beer or one drink it takes at least an hour per each drink to sober up. Never get behind the wheel or let someone else if you or they have been drinking, even if they seem okay. A drink is a drink. Please be Sure to Drink Responsibly.

The National Directory of Designated Driver Services also has a list of services around the world on their main page, which is the page that pops up when you click the link above. They also offer education, inspiration and prevention tools in addition to information that pertains to both Federal Laws and laws by each state.

Have you ever heard of the curse on buying property while in the military? I had never heard of it until a few days ago. But the legend goes that as soon as you buy a home, you will come down on orders within the next 2 years. We got to Fort Bragg, NC, in February of 2009 and our orders to Arizona got revoked 4 years later. With two year long deployments under our belts, and the unit never being unfenced, we decided to purchase a home and make lemonade with lemons. I love my home. It is in a great neighborhood and my minions (8 and 5 year old girls, 1 year old boy) have friends in the neighborhood. It is close to base and other shopping, as well as keeping within budget for a specialist, it was just perfect for us. Well, the curse has appeared, and we came down on orders for Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Just a little less than 2 years in our home and we are off to …. whiter, colder pastures. Regardless of the stress it has caused, and being worried about sitting on property (debt), I am glad we moved off post. We finally had a place of our own where we could take time to upgrade and build. Yes, I have pulled my hair out worrying about renting my home out, or selling it, but as I am constantly told, it’ll work itself out. With some advice from a realtor about modifications and pricing, lots of blood sweat and tears….my house is officially market ready and I have a renter with a signed contract. Now 30 days out from moving, that’s one thing off my checklist and I’m on to the next!

The visit with the realtor to prepare my house for “show” was, honest and brutal, BUT needed to be heard. Ok, here is a little background: when purchasing our home we looked for foreclosed or short sale homes. Two reasons; the price was going to be much less in a neighborhood that were priced higher AND I could paint, modify and work to make my house the way I want. A house in an investment after all! Granted we haven’t had much time, and there are still things I want to do, such as redoing the kitchen. It’s moving along slowly, and with a renter, I can still put money into it now and again. If my house were to sell now at market value, we would make a profit because it was a foreclosed home. When walking through my home the biggest issues were cosmetic. Painting, repairing a back door (NC homes do not come with back gutters so the bottom of the door is damaged), and a few shingles were the main items on the list. We put in a fire pit and began to save money to start painting, but with emergencies that arose, we have had to put things on pause. Ok, back to the realtor walk through, she came through the home and named those exact same things, I had already painted half the home, so it was back to work for me. Did I mention my husband isn’t home? Yeah, I am alone with 3 kids, no help, and a house to prepare for move, all while he sits in Korea. Once he gets home, we head out for Alaska within a week! There is no time for sitting for me!

Time to get to work!

Want a full body workout?? PAINT. YOUR. ENTIRE. HOUSE.

Let me tell you what, any beachbody workout, fitness class, or gym time has no comparison to painting each room of the house and trim. I have been sore from my fingertips to toes. It takes 2 hours to tape a room and less than 5 minutes to remove the tape when you are done. Kitchens and bathrooms are the worst! Tell you what, covered in paint, pile of tape and plastic on the floor and cleaning brushes when I finished a room…….I felt so incredibly proud of myself. I felt on top of the world that, I did it myself. I originally quoted services to come and paint but it would cost me well over 3k to paint my home. So far I have spent about $500 or less doing it myself. Tip…Go to Lowes, 10% military discount.

Remember the blood, sweat and tears I was talking about?? I had bruised and cut my hands while replacing window screens – strike one. While prepping and moving furniture in our bonus room, my one year old by my side, as I was moving a book shelf, it came crashing down! Thank goodness he wasn’t in the way. Tons of books and my grown mans toys, ALL over the floor. Once I cleared out the pieces and vacuumed, I wiped my hands and said that was a sign from God for me to be done for the day! HA!

After days of being covered in paint and tape, no make up, hair a wreck and nails gone…..the interior was DONE! Minus a few touch ups, I am finally finished. It was time for me to move outdoors! Now on the outside of the house, due to good ole mother nature, mold had begun to grow on the siding. I quoted a power wash company to wash my house….$300 bucks baby! I’m telling you, I am all about saving and this was NOT saving. I found this FABULOUS house wash ($8 at Lowes), literally takes 15 minutes. Spray it on with a hose, wash it off once it’s on (after letting it sit for about 10 minutes) and VIOLA! All mold is gone and the house looks shiny and new!

I have worked so hard, alone, while wrangling 3 kids………and I couldn’t be happier with myself. Prepping a house is incredibly hard work but in the end, if you are willing to do the work yourself, not only will you feel an incredible sense of accomplishment but you will also save yourself a pretty penny.
