SUMMERTIME IS HERE! The kiddos are out of school, and all the summer time events are in high gear! What comes with summer? Warm weather and those sun rays! So, how do we protect our kiddos this summer?

Lets talk about some summer safety tips for the little ones:

1. UPF Matters – All those cute little swimsuits in the store are adorable, BUT finding the right one can help aid in protecting your baby’s skin. Finding a swimsuit with a 30 UPF+ is the most beneficial to your little one!
2. Sunscreen – Yes! We are all too familiar with this! When outside the majority of the day, those sun rays can take a toll on your kiddo’s skin! Generously apply sunscreen at least every 2 hours to your baby’s skin, especially when they are sweating or swimming!
3. Staying Hydrated – Hydration is key! Bottles and sippy cups, OH MY! Let’s keep a lot of fluids in these little ones, especially when they are outside sweating. Making sure they always have access to something to drink, can help keep your little one hydrated in the sun! Popsicles also work well too, they are not just a snack! Popsicles can be made with electrolyte drinks, for example, to keep the little ones properly hydrated!
4. Hats – Ever seen those wide-brimmed hats in stores? Yes, they make baby/toddler ones! Many of these hats contain UPF and can help with keeping your little one protected from those sun rays! Also, it allows the little ones to have shade over their faces, so they can see better without squinting. Their eyes are sensitive, just like ours.
5. Sun Canopies – These contraptions are great for all members of the family! However, they are phenomenal for the little ones. If you need some shade for your babies or toddlers, sun canopies are a great go-to! What if you are out and its nap time, but your at the beach or lake all day, use a sun canopy! Pricing varies on these, but they can be well worth the money!!

We had a little bit of a rocky start this year. Our curriculum arrived super late, so I felt like we were pushing from day one to get caught up again. After a couple of weeks of intense working, I had to slow the pace. I was afraid that we were going to burn out at the rate we were going. But, now I feel as though we slowed down too much. I did a little networking in my community, and a little online to get a few tips to get us recharged and back on a path that will be successful. Homeschool parents – it can be a struggle! But there are a few things that you can do that will help! These tips will help build success for your homeschool journey.

1. Connect in your community – Reach out on your local base page and ask if there are any other homeschool families. Connect and grow with other families in your area. Organize field trips, nature walks and more! Not only does this help get you out of the house for some fun (and learning), but it gives you a chance to connect with other parents who are homeschooling as well. You can also share and swap curriculum, and get ideas to use with your own kids! If your community does not have a homeschool group yet – start one!
2. Find Online Support Groups – There are so many online support groups out there! Some are designed for a specific curriculum, while others are open to everything. Do a little searching, ask your homeschool friends which ones they follow, and get started! These groups are chalk full of information, tips, and so much more!
3. Maintain a constant schedule – Homeschooling can be very flexible, but having a schedule of activities will help keep kids focused and engaged. There will be days when your schedule flies out the window, and that is okay! Build your ideal calendar and stick to it as much as possible.
4. Don’t pack too much in – You DO NOT have to do every subject every day! Play with your curriculum and see what works best for you! Doing too much (or to little) will frustrate kids and make them start pushing back. Find 2-3 subjects a day that you want to focus on and work around those.
5. Don’t be afraid to ask questions – whether you are asking another homeschool mom, or posting in your group – do not be afraid to reach out for help! None of us are perfect, and we all need a helping hand! There are some super veterans out there who have been homeschooling for years. They are always willing to help answer your questions!
6. Remember to have fun – This one is one of the most important ones! Learning should be fun, (although some subjects are harder to make fun than others). Keeping our kids engaged in their learning and wanting to continue to learn more can be hard. Build rewards into their schoolwork, take a day off now and again, etc. There are so many ways to keep schooling exciting!

Lemons have a variety of uses around the house, so here are a few tips about where and how you can use those lemons. But you don’t have to use just lemons, baking soda and vinegar have a few useful bits about them too!

TIPS:

~Kitchens

Sprinkle your stove top, counters and sinks down lightly with baking soda and vinegar.  Wait for the magical reaction (yep it just starts to foam). Once it’s lost its fizzle, just take a cloth and start wiping.  Be sure to finish up with a damp cloth of H2O (water) to rinse your stove top, counters and sinks clean with.  If you want to add a little shine your stove top polish it off with a lemon before you rinse clean with your damp cloth.  Having problems with your garbage disposal smelling as fresh as a summer’s breeze?  Place a few lemon wedges into your disposal and run as you normally would with water.  This will not only clean, sanitize and freshen your garbage disposal,  but this will also sharpen those dulling blades!

Lemons are great for cleaning your kitchen electric grills too!

~Bathrooms

You can use baking soda, vinegar and lemons much of the same way in the bathroom as you did the kitchen.  With a few exceptions of course!   Sprinkle your bathtub, counter and sink down with baking soda and vinegar.   Just like in the kitchen, wait for the fizzle to stop its sizzle and then wipe clean.  You can rinse the tub with your shower head or with a damp cloth.  Rinse your counter and sink with a damp cloth.  You can also add some gleaming glow to your sink and bathtub with some lemon if you’d like before you rinse with water.
