Tender Beef Stroganoff
Ingredients needed:
- 3 pounds chuck roast
- 1 1/2 pounds white mushrooms
- 2 cans cream of mushrooms soup
- 1/2 cup peeled garlic gloves
- 1 stick real butter, sliced into six pieces
- 3 yellow onions
- 1 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 3 cups sour cream
- Salt and Pepper to taste preferences
Pre-heat the oven to 200° setting the oven racks on the lowest rungs.
Place an ovenproof stockpot on the stove-top over medium-high heat.
Place the garlic and butter in the pot.
Chop the onions.
Chop the mushrooms.
Add both to the garlic and butter pot.
Let sauté until all the juices have evaporated, approximately five minutes. While the mixture sautés, cut the beef into bite-sized cubes.
Add to the mushroom onion mix and brown the beef.
Add the Worcestershire sauce, giving it a great big stir. Turn the stove off. Move to a cold burner.
Add the soup and the sour cream.
Stir it until everything is mixed evenly.
Add salt and pepper to your preferences. We love pepper so I always add more than a palm full of freshly ground. Salt is about 1/4 of my palm.
Give it one final stir and admire the beautiful simplicity!
Bake at 200° for 4 hours WITHOUT touching your oven. I promise. Do not touch it. Do not stir it. Do not open the oven. Just don’t do it. It is so worth it. Take it out of the oven with potholders and stir it well. Place it back in the oven for another hour. If after the 5 hours of slow-baking it is not quite thick enough for your liking, take 3 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1/2 cup of half-&-half mixed together in a cup and pour into the stroganoff.
This will help it thicken up the last hour of baking.
When your family is ready to eat your dinner will stick to their ribs and make their hearts full!
Enjoy food, enjoy cooking!~
The first one is over three vegetable pasta, you can sneak in even more vegetables and your family won’t notice! The second one is over rice, my husbands absolute favorite. Finally, the last one is over cheesy potatoes, my favorite. YUM!~
