Honoring Our Veterans: A Day of Reflection, Good Food & Gratitude

Every year around Veterans Day, I try to do something that grounds me. This year, I’ll be hiking up to 1st Sgt’s Hill on Camp Pendleton early in the morning with my dog…a quiet, steady climb that gives you time to think about those who’ve served, those still serving, and the families who’ve stood beside them. There’s something about the view from the top that reminds me how lucky we are to call this country home.

When I get back, it’s all about simple comforts, good food, warm company, and slowing down. Breakfast starts with Maxwell House French Roast Coffee, bold and strong enough to wake up after that early hike. I’ll probably crack open a Red Bull Zero for a little extra kick while prepping food, or reach for an OIKOS Chocolate Protein Shake for something quick before friends stop by.

Lunch is easy, hearty, and made to share, Oscar Mayer Thick-Cut Bacon wrapped around Rainbow Seafood Shrimp sautéed with garlic and crisping on the skillet, and a tray of Ore-Ida Crispy Fries in the oven. I always have a bowl of Bush’s Original Baked Beans simmering on the stove, it’s one of those smells that feels like home. Lay’s Classic Chips and Ritz Crackers usually make their way onto the table, especially when I mix up a quick StarKist Albacore Tuna dip.

For dessert, I’ll bake something simple, cookies or a loaf cake, with Simply Organic Vanilla Extract (the secret to making your whole kitchen smell cozy). Then it’s time to settle in with a can of Liquid Death Severed Lime Sparkling Water, and maybe a couple Nature Made Magnesium Glycinate Gummies before bed, because after a day like that, you feel every step of that hill. Even my dog Zero gets a little extra love with a full bowl of Dog Chow Complete Adult Chicken Flavor, because he’s been right there with me through every move, every memory, every base.

This Veterans Day isn’t about perfection, it’s about pausing to reflect, to say thank you, and to fill your home with warmth and gratitude. As a small way to give back, don’t forget – now through November 30th, you can enter to win one of FIVE $100 Commissary gift cards by scanning the QR code in store or visiting MMSGiveaways.com. Each entry helps support Operation Homefront, providing assistance to military families and veterans across the country.

Here’s to honoring our heroes, one simple moment at a time.
