Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a great start to 2018. I know we sure did EXCEPT my husband woke up this morning with a sore throat! Noooo! Too much Christmas and New Years cheer I suppose. Luckily, I had planned on making a Hot Toddy for you guys so I served it to him immediately. 😉 Two birds with one stone! A Hot Toddy is a drink usually made with whiskey or bourbon, sweetener, some spice, and topped with boiling water. It’s been known to cure a cold, warm you up, and help you sleep, all in one drink! Let’s celebrate National Hot Toddy day in true happy hour fashion!
Now, I make my Hot Toddy a little differently than normal. Instead of plain old boiling water, I like to add a green tea bag to my mug to give it a little more flavor and why not a boost of antioxidants while we’re at it!
Hot Toddy
- Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey
- Lipton green tea bag
- Honey (local raw honey is best for a cold!)
- Lemon juice, fresh or bottled
- Boiling water
So easy! I like my Hot Toddy to have a lot of flavor, hence the green tea, so I also add a full shot (2 tablespoons) of Jack Daniel’s, a shot (2 tablespoons) of lemon juice, and a shot (2 tablespoons) of honey! My husband doesn’t like it as sweet, so I only added half a shot (1 tablespoon) of honey to his.
Boil the water and add the honey to the mug. Drop in the tea bag, add your water and let it steep for a few minutes. Add the lemon juice and whiskey and stir to combine.
I like to leave my tea bag in the mug while drinking it just for the added flavor, but it’s not necessary. The Hot Toddy is soothing, warm and comforting. It will make you cozy and sleepy too! Make your Hot Toddy, settle in for a nap, and kick that cold to the curb!
As always, please drink responsibly!
