I don’t have a sumptuous story behind this DIY project – it was as simple as my pre-teen complaining that her candy bucket was too “childish” to use for Halloween this year. I looked at that goofy, pink, smiling pumpkin and saw at least five years worth of memories. That cheap little ‘ole candy bucket has been with us through three PCSs for goodness sake! I understood that she no longer wanted to use it, but I couldn’t just drop it off at the local Goodwill. I knew there had to be a way to repurpose it! Annnnd, maybe I am a little bit of a hoarder when it comes to my children’s belongings. Don’t judge me.
My neighbor was spray painting old tin cans last weekend and using them to plant little succulents so I suppose I should give her the credit for planting the seed of this fine idea in my mind. However it came about, I will tell ya – spray paint + old candy bucket = super cute and simple way to decorate your garden this fall!!!! My husband came home and asked, “Where’d you buy that?” To be truthful, gardening shops are most definitely NOT where he spends his free time but I took the compliment for what it was. He thought my spray painted candy bucket was store-worthy!! What do YOU think!?
If you want to make one, too, this is all that you need:
- Plastic candy tub (can be found at the dollar stores!)
- Spray paint (I think autumn colors would be nicest and would avoid looking “tacky”)
- A fall plant, such as mums
Step 1) This project is so simple, there’s literally two steps. Remove the handle, if there is one, and spray paint…
Step 2) … and then plant!
Best of all, this decoration doesn’t have to come down once Halloween ends. This is perfect to use through Thanksgiving, too!!
I’d love to see how yours turn out! What colors would you choose? Share your photos in the comments below!
