The day CHILDREN rejoiced!

Well, ladies and gentlemen, the day is finally here. SUMMER VACATION. It was like the sky opened up and an angelic choir started singing. All I could think about after they told me that we were good for the year was “thank goodness!” I was seriously about to the end of my rope! When it comes to teaching, there is definitely patience needed, and we all know that patience is not one of the virtues that I was given. It has been a slow progression, but progress is progress! I was not sure if we were ever going to make it to the end of the school year. This has been a trial by fire for us.  Our first year homeschooling has been an adventure for sure.

While we have had our ups and downs. I have to say that the we had more UP days than we did down. I was so thankful that we had those awesome days. But the bad days are the ones that make the impression. They showed me what was working and what wasn’t. I gained so much more insight into my kids brains and the little wires that are going crazy in there. I learned what I could do as a parent to help them, and from there we could move forward into learning.

My boys are not sit still kids.  So we are using more of an “out of the box” style. We still use a curriculum, but we do a lot more outside, where they can move and still learn. Our science this year was growing vegetables. Each of the boys was responsible for keeping their chosen plant alive, and to make sure that it is getting the correct amount of sun and water.

Thankfully its time to roll out the fun, and maybe learn a few new things along the way. I plan on slipping in math and some spelling work this summer, but maybe they won’t realize what I am doing! Now to get the next year planned out….
