Labor Day is celebrated the first Monday of September every year. One of the reasons for choosing to celebrate this on the first Monday in September, and not on May 1, which is common in the rest of the world, was to add a holiday in the long break between Independence Day and Thanksgiving. And you know an added HOLIDAY is always a good thing..a little break for the kids and the parents. This day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It starts a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
Labor Day was originally proposed that the day would be filled with a street parade to allow the public to appreciate the work of the trade and labor organizations. After the parade, a festival was to be held to please local workers and their families.
Labor Day is also the LAST SUMMER HOLIDAY to have some fun in the sun and ENJOY the warm weather. There are many ways that you can celebrate BUT make sure that you do it outside. I know some people wish for Fall BUT when we get it they wish for SUMMER again.
So, take advantage of your final SUMMER days and celebrate with some LABOR DAY excitement. A few suggestions are hanging out at the beach, go to or have a barbecue, pack a picnic basket and enjoy, go to the nearest state or national park, or go watch a sporting event or anything outdoors. Some people even plan a quick Labor Day vacation because they know that the cooler days are coming soon. Where we live, our kids have already started school. My kiddos are already EXCITED about a day off from only being in school for 1 week. WHEW! The first week of school madness has taken over them and me.
Whatever you decide to do just ENJOY and HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!
