And Then There Were None – Week 4

The numbers on Soldier Island continue to dwindle, and now there are just four people left. Blore, Armstrong, Ms. Claythorne and Philip Lombard are the remaining prisoners. For isn’t that what they are?? While they continue to debate who the guilty party is, the question of the missing revolver comes about again. They have searched everywhere for it, but it is nowhere to be found. As they go to bed that night, each of them is wondering how much longer they have left, and who will be next. The memories are the next to surface. Memories of their past crimes and indiscretions.

When Mr. Blore hears someone moving about the house, he knows he has to act fast. He alerts each of those who remain, and the decision is quickly reached to do a search. Vera is to remain locked in her room, until Blore and Lombard return, together. Dr. Armstrong is no longer in his room, so he is the obvious choice for killer. As the island is turned upside down looking for him, they run into a problem. Dr. Armstrong is no longer on the island. Vera reminds the gentlemen about the third verse. It discusses the red herring. Another item to note is that the revolver has somehow very neatly returned itself to Philip Lombard’s drawer. But who took it, and where did it go?

As they remain outside the house discussing the possibilities, Vera refuses to return to the house, but Blore is ready for lunch. As he goes up to get something to eat, the remaining two are left to figure out the remaining verses, and who might be next. Their question is quickly answered when upon investigation of what they think is a small earthquake is actually the clock from Vera’s room, having smashed the unfortunate Mr. Blore. As they resume their discussion, and the disappearance of Doctor Armstrong, they notice something odd on the beach…

This week we are reading Chapters 14-Epilogue

Questions:

  1. The chances of any of the guests on Soldier Island to leave are becoming slimmer. What precautions might they have taken?
  2. Doctor Armstrong completely disappears off the island. How is that possible?
  3. Now there are just two possibilities left.. which one is it?
  4. Did you solve the mystery?? Share your answers with us!

Okay dear readers, this was a bit different from any of the other books that we have done. This one is a bit more open ended, so there are a couple of options when it comes to who might have been the killer. If you have not yet seen the movie “And Then There Were None”, I highly recommend it. It does NOT follow the book entirely, but it has a great plot, and is well worth the watch. It is an older film, black and white, but one that the entire family can watch! (It is also available on Prime, so if you have that, it is free). Let me know what you thought of this read! I love anything Agatha Christie, as she is one author to make you really work toward figuring out who the killer might be.. and she just might be showing up again next year sometime!! Until then.. Happy Reading!!
