From the Strawberry Farm to the Table!

One of the things I love about Springtime are the farms that allow you to pick your own fruits and veggies. Recently, I was taking a quick trip to run some errands when we stumbled across one of the local strawberry farms. Of course we had to stop! In my opinion, there’s nothing better than some good weather and fresh fruit. Surprisingly, my teenagers didn’t make a fuss. Everyone really enjoyed the outing. We were able to pick two buckets of delicious strawberries in about 20 minutes.

The timing was also perfect because it was the beginning of their spring break from school, so I already knew they would be looking for snacks during the day. I thought of two great recipes that would come in handy for breakfast and a refreshing drink to cool them down during the day. If you have some fresh strawberries at home, I highly recommend the trying out these recipes!

  • 2 cups of strawberries, fresh
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 cups greek yogurt
  • 1 cup milk
  • Ice

  2. Enjoy!

Homemade Strawberry Lemonade

  • 1 cups sugar, divided
  • 8 cups water, divided
  • 2 cups lemon juice

  1. Add the lemon juice to a large pitcher.
  2. In a blender, add strawberries and 1 cup of water. Blend until pureed.
  3. Add the strawberry mixture to the pitcher.
  4. Heat the sugar and 1 cup of water in a large saucepan until it boils, and the sugar dissolves. Cool
  5. Add the remaining 6 cups of water to the pitcher, then add the cooled sugar syrup.
  6. Stir until well blended.
  7. Serve chilled.

Get out and explore the local farms and farmers markets in your area. If you don’t have any nearby, there’s no need to worry…just take a trip to your local Commissary or you can grow your own too!
