Good afternoon, young readers!
Are you excited about summer? I know I am! I love the adventures that summer holds, the fun, the games, and being able to sleep in from time to time. I always enjoy having the extra time to read as well, which is my most favorite part of the summer days. Whether you are headed to the pool or off for a camping weekend, a book is a great thing to take along!
This month, we are reading the last book in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, drawing this series to a close. We have spent some time over the past few years reading through this series, but it’s time to bring in another book as well!
In the month of July, we are going to be reading It Came From Beneath The Bed by James Howe. Do you remember the Bunnicula series? We have been reading through that one as well, but this is a different series, a spin-off. This one is told from the perspective of Howie, the younger dog that is brought in instead of Chester. I think ya’ll are going to enjoy this series!
Give some thought as well into joining the summer reading program! We will be reading through the summer (July 1- August 31) and finding some fabulous adventures among the pages of books! Get ready to read!
It Came From Beneath The Bed: Goodreads Excerpt
Dear possible reader of this book,
I want to be a writer, just like my uncle Harold, who wrote a bunch of books about our friend Bunnicula. So I wrote this story. And boy! Did I ever get into trouble! My friend Delilah stopped speaking to me because I put her in my book. Uncle Harold stopped speaking to me because I didn’t put him in my book. A writer’s life isn’t easy!
But back to my story: It’s about how a talented and lovable (not to mention smart) wirehaired dachshund puppy named Howie saves the world from a disgusting, evil menace named…oops, that would give away the story. But trust me, this menace is disgusting and evil, all right!!!
Your friend, Howie
