School’s out for summer! Well, here anyway. Woohoo! My 10 year old has been dying to make his own sushi. So much so, that we’ve purchased a sushi rolling kit, even though no one has any idea how to do it. I thought we could start with something easy and work our way up so today we made FRUIT SUSHI! It is SO much fun! Also, it was pretty darn easy. 😉
We also made some candy sushi rolls as well so if you don’t want to get too crazy, you can start with these. They’re so cute and delicious! We used store bought rice krispy treats, candy fish, and fruit roll-ups. Cut the ends off the treats to make them more round and wrap a piece of roll-up around your fish! My son even added some mango slices to his. How cute are they?!
We bought sushi rice to use, but you can absolutely use regular white or even brown rice! I added a couple tablespoons of coconut milk in the rice once it was done cooking. It gave the rice a mild sweetness that complimented the fruit wonderfully.
If you don’t have a sushi rolling set, you can use plastic wrap to roll your sushi. We got some different colored soy wrappers, but you can use regular fruit roll-ups or just the rice! Slice up your favorite fruits and grab your cooled sushi rice. It’s time to make some sushi! We used mango, kiwi, strawberries, and blueberries. I love all the different color combinations!
So easy the 10 year old could do it! 😉 We rolled up some different sushi combos and I cut them into pieces.
How cute! This was a great afternoon (or after school) snack. I love being able to spend time with the kids in the kitchen! We had so much fun!
