Dig Into Our New Adventure With Holes

Hey, kiddos! The school year is back in full swing! Whether you are going in person or attending online, there is a lot of give and take this year. While we prepare for the upcoming months, there are some new adventures moving our way!

This month, we are reading through The Ship of Shadows by Maria Kuzniar, which is a really fun adventure full of pirates! I absolutely loved it, and I am going to be sharing it with my kids this month, and we are going to be reading through it together. While September is brand new, October is going to be here before we know it. I don’t know about you, but I love October! I love the changing colors, the smells in the air, and the many different fun activities that we usually attend. Although some of those are going to be different this year, we are still looking forward to the many different things that we can do to make this season fun anyway.

During the month of October, we are going to be reading Holes by Louis Sachar. You might have seen the movie that is based on this book, but as usual, the book usually has a lot of information that doesn’t come through in the movie. I hope ya’ll love this one!

Excerpt for Holes (goodreads)

Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment — and redemption.

Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten- pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnats. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys’ detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the warden makes the boys “build character” by spending all day, every day, digging holes: five feet wide and five feet deep. It doesn’t take long for Stanley to realize there’s more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment—and redemption.
