It’s Summer!!! Smoothies Anyone???

There are so many great fruits and vegetables that are in season right now, and they are perfect for making smoothies. Some of my favorites to use are pineapple, bananas, mango and carrots. One of the best things about smoothies is that they are so easy to make and they only require a few ingredients. The basic components are ice, fruits or vegetables, and a liquid (usually juice, milk or water).

The possibilities are really endless as you can make a smoothie from any combination of ingredients that you can think of.

Here are some simple recipes that I enjoy making:

  • Banana, Orange & Carrot: 1 Banana, 1 cup carrot & 1/2 cup orange juice
  • Mango: 1 cup mango, 1/2 medium banana, 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt, 3/4 cup vanilla almond milk
  • Strawberry, Blueberry & Banana: 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup blueberries, 1 cup strawberries, 1 banana, 1/4 cup non-fat plain yogurt, 1 cup ice

The next time you take a trip to your local Commissary be sure to pick up some seasonal fruits and veggies and see what combinations you can come up with for your perfect smoothie!
