Vegan On A Budget: The Scotch Sour 7

It’s a common misconception that spirits are all Vegan. You should see the look on faces when I ask if they sell Vegan wine. “Aren’t all wines vegan since they are made of grapes?“. The answer is….No. Actually, some wines (& beers) are processed through the bladders of fish {or use gelatin in its ingredients}. The same goes for whisky, scotch, and other harder spirits. 

Having a get together, BBQ, game night or just a brunch can be fun for everyone, especially when you are popping a cork. 
Here, I have created a sour slushy type drink with a real punch. I prefer 1 shot of the scotch, but it also depends on each person’s brand/flavor/taste. 
So in a blender combine these ingredients:

  • 7 Strawberries
  • 7 Ice Cubes
  • 7 Wedges of Lemon (or 1 whole lemon)
  • 2 Shots of Scotch
Pour into a glass, add a straw and enjoy! 
My husband called this more of a girly drink with it being pink, but he did taste it and said wow it has some bang! 
If you aren’t a Scotch drinker, try these (confirmed) Vegan liquor alternatives {Remember NOT included are any Honey versions}. 
The cost? Lemons run about 50 cents, strawberries in my area are $5 for 2 pounds, and Scotch has a variety of prices (mine was $55). If you were just making yourself 1 glass, lets say its certainly cheaper than going to a club/bar. 
Obviously the social drinker vs the occasional will also vary the price per glass. 
If you are having an event, figure 2-3 drinks per person. With one bottle allotting to about 25(and up)- 1 ounce- shots, you are looking at a cost of $5 a drink; 12 drinks (that’s giving a little room for fruit costs, and calculating the bottle I purchased).
