Nerdy Nibbles gets SHERlocked!

Guess what?! Season 4 of Sherlock will FINALLY be on Netflix this weekend! I am SO excited! I know exactly what I’ll be doing Saturday. 😉

While perusing Pinterest, I came across bakingmischief.com who offered these ADORABLE tea tags with Sherlock themes. I was inspired by her tea bag cookies and decided to whip up some of my own, with a special added ingredient.

Sherlock Shortbread Tea Bag Cookies

  • Cream 1 cup of softened unsalted butter with 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  • Add 2 cups of all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt
  • Scoop half the dough out onto plastic wrap
  • Open a bag of Earl Grey tea and mix it in with the other half of the dough
  • Scoop that half onto plastic wrap as well, refrigerating for at least 30 minutes

Flour your work surface (I covered mine in wax paper and then flour) and your rolling pin. Roll out your dough to about 1/4″ thick. Using a small sharp knife (or pizza cutter!) cut dough into squares. Cut two corners off the top of each square and then using a straw, poke out your tea bag string hole.

You’ll be able to re-roll the scraps and make about 10 tea bags, depending on your size. Set the cookies on the baking pan and refrigerate for 10 minutes. This will help them retain their shape while baking. Now you can roll out your tea infused dough. Look how pretty it is! Next time, I’ll add the tea to the whole batter. It added a lovely floral sweetness to the cookies.

Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees, until the edges brown slightly. Let cool completely. Melt 1 cup of chocolate chips for dipping. I always add a teaspoon of shortening or butter to the chocolate for some added gloss. Dip each cookie half way into the chocolate. As you can see, I left some un-dipped. It’s completely up to you!

While the chocolate is hardening, print out your tea bag tags from bakingmischief.com. Her whole website is so much fun! Using string, twine, or embroidery floss cut some tea bag strings. Loop them through your cookie holes and tape the string in the tags. HOW STINKING CUTE ARE THESE?!

I love everything about these tea bag cookies and Sherlock. Except maybe that the seasons are SO short! 😉 I even made a couple of mustache cookies with my leftover dough, in honor of Watson. So much fun!!

Now, sit back with a “surprisingly okay” cup of tea, some shortbread cookies, and enjoy the entire series of Sherlock!
