The Day I Noticed The Signs

HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!

I feel so much went on in the  past week but it could be because I am almost 15 weeks pregnant and so everything that happens now a days seems like a lot. Zion started with a new developmental therapist this week. She is also his play group teacher on Tuesdays so he was familiar with her already. She works very well with him and the first day we talked a lot about Zion and what he likes and doesn’t like. She is knowledgeable about Sensory Processing Disorder and has given me more pointers. She mentioned we should try a timer with Zion because he has a lot of trouble with changing task. We literally get a tantrum every time we have to move on to something else, especially trying to leave the house. Zion also qualified for Speech!! Woohoo!! So he will be seeing a Speech Therapist named Carol every week for 1hr. I am confident I will be having full blown conversations with him in no time!

I have to be honest Zion is impressing me daily with how smart he is! He turned 2 in July, and as of today he can identify all of his letters (he tries really hard to say them with some being clearer then others), identifies his numbers to 10, and can count by himself to 10. We walk around (apartment hallway, the store, etc) and if he sees a letter or number (0-10) he points it out to me. He loves to count his cars now and honestly takes every opportunity to count or say his numbers in some way. This has all happened over the past month but the past 2 weeks specifically I have noticed him doing this so much more. I am so proud of this little boy. I in no way pressure him to learn these things either (being that he is only 2). We do puzzles everyday, but for the most part Zion is a playing machine and plays with his toys the majority of the day. He will bring me his puzzles when he wants to work on letters and numbers. I posted a short video of him working on his letter!

Zion also had his last soccer practice this past weekend. I have watched him evolve over the last 9 weeks from not wanting anything to do with the sport or the other kids on the team, to fully engaging in practice and actually playing with his teammates! It makes my heart so happy to see Zion happy and playing with other children. Although he still won’t acknowledge or engage with other kids that he isn’t familiar with (like at the playground) I feel like having him play this little team sport was a step in the right direction for him! Below is an awesome pic I snapped of him hanging with his teammates (he is in the blue)!

As always I appreciate you taking the time to read about my sweet boy! And please if anyone has any ideas or suggestions for me and my husband to use for Zion’s transitions please feel free to comment or email me at: amanda@mymilitarysavings.com

See you next week!!
