Good day, dear readers!
Happy spring! I know that I cannot be the only one excited that the weather is turning nicer. It is almost like the days are screaming “have a good one” as you walk out the door. Today, I sat on the porch with a handful of books, trying to figure out which one I was going to choose, and I got lost in just watching life go by. Kids were on bikes, couples were out walking, and even the pets seemed to have a peppier step. It only took me 17 books and 3 hours to figure out what we would be reading in May.
April has been a great reading month so far, and The Secret By The Lake by Louise Douglas has kept me interested so far. I am enjoying the storyline. Are you? While I am liking the book, I felt that we had to follow it up with an epic read. There are just so many to choose from! I finally settled on The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. There is nothing more amazing than this classic book. Now, I will admit to watching the movies – over and over, but I have NEVER read the books!
Let’s dive into another great book and head out on an adventure.
The Hobbit Excerpt:
A great modern classic and the prelude to The Lord of the Rings.
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.
Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.
