It’s Friday! Let’s celebrate with some easy and tasty sugar cookies! Just in time for Easter.
Now, have you ever attempted a recipe and have it fail completely? That was me this week. All I wanted to do was make a bunch of cookies brightly colored with jello powder for the kids. I used two store bought pouches of sugar cookie dough and doubled the recipe. BIG mistake. I used way too much butter and the cookies baked into one melty, albeit delicious, mess. Well, I’m not one for giving up so I decided to try again. I had leftover jello powder, a large pouch of cookie dough and followed the directions on the back. Success! We ended up with slightly swirled sugar cookies that taste like amazing fruity, buttery, sugary goodness. Worth it!
Key Step: follow the directions! HA! One large pouch of sugar cookie dough, 1 stick of softened butter, 1 egg, and 1 tablespoon of water. In my haste, I forgot to take pictures of adding my jello powder. BUT, I do have pictures of when I attempted to separate the dough and powders to have different colored and flavored cookies. It’s pretty easy and super fun to have your kids help! Especially if you love jello powder all over your work space. 😉 I used about 1/2 a pack of jello powder for each color. The cookies WILL taste like the fruity jello, so be mindful of your flavors! I used raspberry, lime, orange, and berry blue. (That berry blue was a little funky, not gonna lie!) 😉
For the second batch, I thought I’d make it easier on myself and just toss the jello powder all in with the dough. Maybe it’ll come out tie dyed? Maybe not? What happened was the slightest swirl of pastel colors. PERFECT for Easter. Yes!
Bake at 350 degrees for 7-9 minutes. See the slight swirl? I know, it’s barely there, BUT you know what IS there? Fruitiliciousness. I made up that word just for these cookies. They remind me of a fruity breakfast cereal, but WAY better. The jello flavors melded together wonderfully and I’m telling you what, these taste awesome. And they’re still pretty!
I hope you give these a try this weekend. Dye your cookies while you dye your eggs! You’ll be in for a fruity treat! Oh! If you do end up with leftover jello powder, you have GOT to try the sour patch eggs from this Nerdy Nibbles. They will knock your socks off!
