Holiday gifts for teachers are a simple, yet wonderful way of saying “thank you,” or “we appreciate you”. These gifts vary so much, from a hand made card, to gift cards, school supplies and many times a DIY gift! Well…Valentine’s Day is around the corner!!! We live in Alaska and for the majority of the year it is pretty chilly and right now we have been in negative temps for a while. I wanted to try something different but useful for these great teachers! Homemade hand warmers are perfect!!!! Super simple to make and you probably have most of the supplies in and around your home!
DIY HANDWARMERS
What you need:
- Scraps of fabric (cotton)
- Rice
- Needle & Thread
- Funnel (not necessary but makes things easier)
- fun shaped scissors (optional)
What to do:
- Cut your fabric into the shape of your choice
- Now….. I am not talented with a sewing machine and honestly I don’t have one. So hand sewing! Stitch your shape leaving about a quarter inch from the edges, leave about a half inch open before closing.
- Use a funnel, or simply pour from your hand and fill your warmer with rice and finish stitching!
THAT’S IT!
This super simple project is such a hit! I had my kids write their own Valentine’s Day card and send it with their hand warmers. These can be reused, warm in a microwave for 30 seconds and be careful when taking them out!
